The Queensland government has announced $12.4 million for 600 community groups – including $1.18 million for Sunshine Coast groups – in the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said the Gambling Community Benefit Fund was Queensland’s largest one-off grants program, which distributes about $53 million a year to communities.
In the latest round announced today, Mrs D’Ath said 602 groups would benefit from $12.4 million.

“On the Sunshine Coast, Coolum Beach Meals on Wheels has been allocated $34,895 to install a solar system and Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club will receive $27,148 to purchase a trailer,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“In addition, YMCA Caloundra Gymnastics will also receive $35,000 to install a gymnastics floor and Sunshine Coast Hockey Association will get $35,000 to replace scoreboards.
“This is terrific news for the Sunshine Coast region. The Palaszczuk Government is ensuring community organisations have the funding they need to provide services to their community.”
Mrs D’Ath said these community groups were vital to the region.
“Dedicated locals are the lifeblood of these community groups and we are ensuring they have funds needed for projects that would have otherwise been out of reach.
“We know how vital their work is, and that is why we contribute millions of dollars every round as part of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.”
Mrs D’Ath said applications for the next round would open later in July.
“Applications are assessed by the Community Benefit Funds Unit and are considered every quarter. Community groups can also apply online for these grants worth between $500 and $35,000.” Mrs D’Ath said.
