Oromo community in Melbourne protests against Ethiopian government violent crackdown on farmers and students

by  Africa Media Australia

The Oromo community in Melbourne organised a protest rally  in Melbourne on Friday 9 May 2014 to voice its concerns about acts of violence perpetrated against civilians (mostly Oromo students and farmers)  by government forces in Addis-Ababa, Ethopia. The crackdown happened following a large demonstration on 29 April 2014 by about 25,000 Oromo civilians to protest against  the government’s recently announced plan for the territorial expansion of the nation’s capital Addis-Ababa, which will involve large portions of land being taken away from Oromo farmers.
