Afro Hub is a new centre that seeks to help creative African Australians showcase their talents through poetry and spoken word events. The privately owned Carlton North venue plans to present a poetry slam every month, featuring a performance from a talented African Australian poet and storyteller.
The first Poetry Slam is set to be hosted by Abe Nouk on Thursday 27th October 2016. Mr Nouk is an acclaimed Melbourne-based Sudanese-born spoken-word poet, hip-hop fanatic and author whose talents helped him reach the third position in the Australian National Poetry Slam.

Soreti Kadir is said to be the main act at the opening Afro Hub event. Ms Kadir is a Melbourne-based poet and writer of Oromo descent, who is committed to cultivating the power of the afro-decent diaspora through her work as one of the Co-Founders and the Directing Manager of In Our Own Words; an NGO focused on self-awareness, de-colonial thinking and community empowerment.
The owner of Afro Hub wants to see it develop as an incubator of African Australian talent, showcasing live music, artwork, food, fashion, design, photography and film created by Melbourne-based artists hailing from various countries on the African continent.
