IT’S HIGH TIME
AUSTRALIA is home to people from different ethnic backgrounds and has been quite successful in absorbing and integrating many groups of migrants on its shores.
In recent years, we have seen the influx of thousands of migrants from Africa, and just like other migrant groups, africans who come to Australia also face a variety of challenges settling into a new environment with a new culture that is fairly different from what they are particularly used to. In order to make Australia home, African migrant groups have started reinventing their culture and this can be seen in areas such as fashion and entertainment. Additionally, over recent years Africans have increasingly been more active in establishing businesses especially in areas of food, hospitality, hair and beauty, entertainment, as well as import and export of culturally relevant goods.
Recently Nano Jamz, an entertainment company based in Melbourne was founded to help promote African music in Australia such as Hip-life, Hip-Hop and Makosa. The company is now announcing an Australian Tour for International super stars BRACKET, a hip-hop duo from Nigeria which has been very successful around the world with their first Album, which includes songs featuring mega artist in the likes of P-Square, J Martins, Wiz Kid and many others.
The group Bracket which is made up of Nwachukwu Ozioko as Vast and Ali Obumneme as Smash is known for songs such as“YORI YORI”, “My Girl”, “Mua Mua”, “Temperature”, “Me and You”, No Time and many more. Their second album called “Cupid” was released in September 2011, featuring artist such as 2Face Idibia, Flavour N’abania and many others. Bracket has been quite successful around the world thanks to, amongst other things the uniqueness of their voices and the distinctive mix of their ethnic language (Igbo) with English.
Many Africans are very happy to see their successful musical groups come to Australia. Baraka Emmy, a young African we met in the streets of Footscray was excited to hear about Bracket coming to Melbourne.“It’s about time, events such as these, needs to be encouraged as it creates a sense of belongings and social inclusion to many and also shows that we still have ties with our cultures and also creates an opportunity for us to share our culture with the wider Australian society” he stated .
The event will be held in three different cities here in Australia, The first show will be in Sydney on Friday January 25, 2013 at the Factory Theater, located at 105 Victoria Road, Marrickville, NSW, On Saturday Januauy 26, 2013 the group will be performing live in Brisbane at the Hifi, located at 125 Boundary St, West End QLD and finally on Sunday the 27 of January 2013, the group will performing for the last time in Melbourne at the Hifi located at 125 swanston St, Melbourne.
