A recent community meeting held at the QACC Redbank Plains youth centre brought together a dynamic group of young African-Australians, igniting discussions on youth leadership and the importance of stepping up to support one another in the community. The gathering provided a platform for young individuals to explore their leadership potential and the impact they can make within their communities.

The meeting resonated with a prevailing sentiment among attendees: that there is a wealth of leadership skills and untapped potential within the youth. Given the space and opportunities to thrive, these young leaders can shine brilliantly and effect positive change when empowered to take the lead.

Discussions at the meeting spanned various aspects of youth leadership, from fostering confidence and resilience to embracing diversity and inclusivity. Participants shared personal experiences and insights, highlighting the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and community engagement in nurturing effective leadership qualities among young people.

Key to the success of the meeting was the involvement of established community leaders like Beny Bol and Teferi Wedisile, who provided guidance and support to the emerging leaders. Their presence underscored the commitment of community elders to empower the next generation and create pathways for their success.

As the meeting concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to harness their leadership potential for the betterment of their communities. By fostering an environment of mentorship, collaboration, and support, initiatives like the one at QACC Redbank Plains youth centre are paving the way for a new generation of African-Australian leaders to thrive and make meaningful contributions to society.

In the words of one attendee, “When given the opportunity and guidance, young people have the capacity to lead and inspire. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.”
