Melbourne will host the launch of Daraja Impact Hub on 28 March, marking the arrival of a global mentorship initiative designed to support the next generation of African professionals and leaders.
The program connects young African university students and early-career professionals with experienced African mentors from around the world. The goal is simple but powerful: help emerging talent access guidance, professional networks, and career opportunities that are often difficult to find, particularly for those navigating life and work in the diaspora.

Founded as a structured mentorship platform, Daraja Impact Hub has already established connections across countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and South Africa. The initiative pairs participants with mentors who bring years of professional experience, offering advice on career development, leadership and navigating complex professional environments.
Technology plays a role in making those connections possible. The program uses the mentoring platform Mentorloop, which matches mentors and mentees based on career goals, experience and professional interests, helping create relationships that are both meaningful and practical.
The launch event will also feature a keynote address from the newly elected African-Australian mayor of the City of Maribyrnong, the municipality that includes the Footscray area. The mayor’s presence is expected to highlight the growing role of African-Australian leadership in public life and the importance of initiatives that support the next generation of professionals.
Despite being relatively new, the program has already facilitated hundreds of mentorship conversations and meetings between participants, with strong engagement from both mentors and mentees. Organisers say the response reflects a growing demand among African youth for structured support and professional guidance.
For many young Africans living and studying abroad, access to networks and experienced mentors can make a significant difference in shaping career paths. As the Melbourne launch approaches, organisers hope the event will not only introduce the program to the local community but also inspire new partnerships to expand mentorship opportunities and strengthen pathways for future African leaders.
