The National Gallery of Victoria proudly presents Africa Fashion, the largest African fashion exhibition to grace Australian shores. Featuring nearly 200 works, this extraordinary showcase includes couture, bespoke, and ready-to-wear fashions, as well as body adornments from over 50 designers representing more than 20 countries and regions across the African continent.

Witness cutting-edge couture from renowned designers such as Thebe Magugu, Imane Ayissi, IAMISIGO, Lisa Folawiyo, Lukhanyo Mdingi, and many others. The exhibition also spotlights local community and creatives, highlighting the vibrant cultural exchange within our city.
Curated by Dr. Christine Checinska of the V&A, the exhibition opened with a special performance titled “HAIR DAY,” curated by Dorcas Maphakela. This performance celebrated the unique and collective black salon experience in Australia, weaving together diverse stories and the rich tapestry of black hair culture.
