Police charge teenager following CBD murder last weekend

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a 17-year-old male following the death of Laa Chol in the CBD last Saturday.

Police were called to an address on A’Beckett Street following reports of a woman suffering serious injuries about 5.15 AM on 21 July.

Paramedics attended, however the 19-year-old died at the scene.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male from Sunshine North earlier this afternoon and he has since been charged with one count of murder.

The male has been remanded in custody and will appear at Melbourne Children’s Court tomorrow.

Ms Chol’s family is asking members of the South Sudanese community, as well as the broad African community to refrain from making any media comments about this tragic event. 

More informatoin will be made available by the police in the next few days regarding the progress of the investigation
