Legendary Senegalese Musician Youssou Ndour to visit Australia in 2018

by  Africa Media Australia

Bluesfest Touring is announcing that Youssou Ndour will visit the Sydney Opera House and Hamer Hall in Melbourne at the end of March 2018. Ending a 14-year wait, the king of African music and Grammy-Award winner, will bring his world music block party backed by his legendary 12-piece band Le Super Étoile de Dakar, acrobatic dancers and over three decades of funk-fused hits.

Senegal. Dakar. 05/2015. Youssou Ndour.

Emerging as ‘the Michael Jackson of Senegal’ at just 12 years of age, Ndour’s innovative pairing of fiery political polemics with the revving rhythms of Mbalax beats has seen him tour the world with Springsteen and Sting, while running for president and campaigning for Nelson Mandela alike.

Leading joyous celebrations of African identity, heritage and hope on the world stage, Ndour’s siren-like singing is an ecstatic voice for change that first broke through with the millions-selling duet ‘7 Seconds’ alongside Neneh Cherry.

Ndour’s voice remains as powerful and relevant as ever and Bluesfest Touring is delighted to share it with Australian audiences. He has been described as ” One of the world’s greatest singers’  (by Time Out), “Africa’s biggest music star’  (by The Telegraph), “So extraordinary that the history of Africa seems locked inside” (by Rolling Stone) and “The kind of performer who is larger than life’ – Los Angeles Times

Yousou Ndour will perform in Sydney’s Opera House on Wednesday 8 March 2018  and in Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Saturday 31 March 2018.
