Vulnerable families in Victoria will receive more support thanks to additional funding announced today by the Victorian government.
A funding package of $72.4 million has been announced today by Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos over two years to support vulnerable families and children.
“Every Victorian child deserves the best start in life and the best chance to reach their full potential. The most effective way to achieve this is by investing in programs we know will strengthen families to provide a safe and stable home for children”, stated Jenny Mikakos
The package is for two years and will include $50.4 million to Child FIRST and family services providers so that families can receive targeted support and assistance if there are concerns about the wellbeing of a child or young person.
$22 million will go for the Cradle to Kinder providers so that vulnerable young mothers aged 25 and under can receive support during pregnancy and until the child reaches four years of age.
The government is hoping that this funding will ensure families can get the help they need to provide a stable, safe environment for their children should they experience difficulties.
The government is also seeking to increase early intervention as a means to reduce child protection services or out of home care.
