The Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with an inspiring evening that honored its rich history, acknowledged the struggles faced, and celebrated the remarkable individuals who led the way. The event highlighted the collective contributions of stakeholders in shaping a future grounded in multiculturalism and inclusivity.

For five decades, ECCV has been a leading advocate for the rights and interests of culturally diverse communities across Victoria. From combating racism and discrimination to promoting diversity and inclusion, ECCV has played a pivotal role in fostering a more harmonious and interconnected society.
This milestone celebration at the Victorian Parliament brought together a room filled with multicultural legends and key figures in ECCV’s history. Attendees included former CEOs such as Ross Barnett OAM, Irene Bouzo PhD, Hakan Akyol PSM, Chris Christoforou, and the current CEO, Mo Elrafihi. Their shared dedication underscores ECCV’s long-standing commitment to advocating for a fairer, multicultural Victoria and the rights of migrants and refugees.

ECCV’s impact over the past 50 years extends to informing industry practice and influencing government policies on a range of issues, including anti-racism, equitable access to services, and socially just policies. The organisation is proud to be the peak body representing Victoria’s migrant and refugee communities.
