Dr David Doward is a former Associate Professor and Director of the African Research Institute. This retired academic has extensive expertise on on Sub-Saharan Africa. AMA caught up with him recently at the Victorian chapter of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) where he made a presentation on “The Rising Threat from Nigeria’s Boko Haram, Militant Islamist Group”. Dr Dorward thinks that whilst Boko Haram is quite serious in its own determination to set up an islamic state in Northern Nigeria, it will not succeed.
