An inspiring celebration in Brisbane set the tone for this year’s Women’s History Month, as community members gathered for an afternoon dedicated to honouring the achievements and leadership of women. Organised by Azambezi Events Co., the event brought together nominees, award recipients and guests in a vibrant atmosphere marked by joy, recognition and unity.

The gathering celebrated outstanding women across a range of fields, highlighting their dedication, resilience and impact within the community. The diversity represented in the room reflected the breadth of talent and leadership among women from different professional and cultural backgrounds. One of the standout moments of the afternoon was an interactive performance by Ashita Asnani, which drew attendees onto the dance floor and created a powerful sense of shared celebration.

pecial acknowledgement was given to Janet Mhindurwa and her team for curating a meaningful and inclusive platform that not only recognised excellence but also fostered connection. The warmth and radiant energy throughout the event made it a memorable launch into a month dedicated to elevating women’s voices and stories.

March is globally recognised as Women’s History Month, a period devoted to celebrating the achievements, resilience and contributions of women across all sectors of society. The observance began in the United States as Women’s History Week in 1980 and was expanded to the full month of March in 1987 following sustained advocacy efforts. Over time, it has grown into an international movement, building on the momentum of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Today, Women’s History Month serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made toward gender equality, while also acknowledging the work that remains. Events such as the Brisbane celebration demonstrate how local communities contribute to this global observance by creating spaces that inspire, empower and honour women’s leadership.
