From humble beginnings — recording live on his phone and sharing his story — Lawrence Shuruma has grown into one of Perth’s most energetic and inspiring voices in motivation and mindset coaching. What started as raw, heartfelt expression has evolved into a movement that’s impacting lives across Western Australia and beyond.
Recently, Lawrence hosted his first in-person event, UNCAGED, a sold-out experience filled with high energy, authentic storytelling, and transformative moments. More than just a gathering, UNCAGED was a declaration — a choice of courage over excuses. It proved that even when driven by fear, belief and community can flip limitations into breakthroughs.

Lawrence Shuruma, motivational speaker and youth leader
“I doubted. I questioned. But we did it anyway — scared,” Lawrence says, capturing the emotional core of the event. But time and again he reminds himself that “it’s not about me — it’s about service and the people.” Watching the audience Reset, Rewire, and Rise brought him back to why he began this journey: growth, connection, and transformation.
From the Pitch to the Podium
Before he became a rising motivational speaker, Lawrence made his mark in sport. A long-time athlete based in Perth, he played for multiple local clubs and was deeply involved in soccer development in Western Australia. His passion turned into action with the founding of Football Method International, a soccer academy where he coaches and mentors more than 60 young players, many from diverse and African backgrounds. This work has made a real impact on youth empowerment through sport.
Excited attendees of the “Uncaged” event held in Perth
Lawrence is also recognised beyond Western Australia’s sporting circles. He has appeared on podcasts such as Perth Entrepreneurs PEP Talk, where he discussed his journey as a pro footballer, entrepreneur, and mental fitness coach, sharing insights on resilience, identity, and purpose.
His story isn’t just about success; it’s about perseverance. In a recent episode of The Inside Edge Project podcast, Lawrence shared that he moved to Australia at age 11 on a refugee visa as the oldest of seven children. He spoke candidly about adapting to a new culture, overcoming language barriers, and facing financial and mental challenges along the way. His framework of Reset • Rewire • Rise has since become a cornerstone of his coaching philosophy.
UNCAGED: A New Chapter?
UNCAGED marked a pivotal moment for Lawrence — not just as an event, but as a symbol of growth. With a small team of dedicated friends behind him, he created a space where people could confront fear, rethink limitations, and embrace forward momentum. For the attendees, it was a moment of connection, empowerment, and community.

“This was just the beginning,” Lawrence says. And indeed, he seems poised for greater reach. With an Eagle Mentality— a metaphor he uses to describe vision, courage, and altitude in life — he’s expanding his focus to include not just mindset coaching but also storytelling, communication, entrepreneurial guidance, and performance strategies for athletes, business owners, and aspiring leaders.
More Than a Speaker — A Movement
Lawrence’s approach is rooted in service: helping others rise above fear, take ownership of their narrative, and unlock potential inside themselves. His blend of lived experience — from refugee beginnings to sports leadership and now personal development coaching — gives him a unique voice that resonates with young people, professionals, athletes, and anyone seeking growth.
As his story continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Lawrence Shuruma is more than a rising motivational speaker — he’s shaping a community of people who are ready to break limits and live intentionally. This is a journey that started with a live video and now stands as a movement of courage, resilience, and transformation.
