List of leadership nominees for 2026
OACWA plays a central coordinating role for African community organisations in Western Australia, advocating for unity, representation, and collaboration across diverse cultural and national backgrounds. The election of its Executive is therefore regarded as a critical moment, shaping not only the organisation’s internal governance but also its broader engagement with government, institutions, and the wider Australian society.
As part of the election process, OACWA has confirmed that Executive elections will be conducted during its upcoming Annual General Meeting. In preparation, the OACWA Election Committee will also convene an online pre-election briefing for community leaders and their designated delegates. This briefing is intended to promote clarity, accountability, and shared understanding of the process.
According to OACWA, the briefing will outline key elements of the election framework, including the procedures to be followed, the respective roles and responsibilities of nominees, community leaders, and delegates, as well as expectations before, during, and after the election. This step reflects the organisation’s emphasis on transparency and informed participation.
Nominees have been authorised to begin informing their respective communities of their candidacy, enabling community members to engage, ask questions, and reflect on the leadership direction they wish to see for the next term. OACWA has reiterated that community engagement remains central to its democratic ethos.
In its announcement, OACWA reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, inclusive, and fair election process that genuinely reflects the voices and aspirations of African communities throughout Western Australia. Members, community leaders, and delegates have been encouraged to actively participate in the AGM and election process, recognising leadership selection as a shared responsibility.
As OACWA looks ahead to the 2026–2028 period, the organisation has underscored the importance of unity, accountable leadership, and collective vision in advancing the social, cultural, and civic interests of African Australians in Western Australia.
For further information, community members are invited to contact the OACWA Election Committee through official channels.
