The Kenyan Community in New South Wales (KCNSW) has taken a significant step forward in advancing community representation and engagement, following a highly productive meeting with NSW Minister Jihad Dib , Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Emergency Services and for Youth Justice.

The meeting, described by KCNSW as one of its most impactful engagements to date, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Kenyan community and the NSW Government, while laying the groundwork for long-term, structured partnerships.

NSW Kenyan community’s representative meeting with Minister Dib

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the establishment of a Community Liaison Framework. The Minister’s office has assigned a dedicated liaison officer to work directly with KCNSW, ensuring consistent communication, coordination, and follow-through on issues affecting the Kenyan community in NSW.

This move is expected to enhance continuity in engagement and provide a clear point of contact between the community and government.

Discussions also progressed around the establishment of a Swahili language school for the Kenyan community. In collaboration with the Minister’s office and the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools, initial conversations have outlined the scope of the initiative, expectations, and shared responsibilities among stakeholders.

The proposed program aims to support cultural preservation, intergenerational learning, and linguistic continuity within the Kenyan diaspora, with further updates expected as planning advances.

Strengthening Kenyan Representation in Government

In a move reflecting deeper institutional collaboration, it was agreed that KCNSW will nominate a representative to work within the Minister’s office. This step is intended to strengthen relationships, improve visibility, and foster sustained engagement between the Kenyan community and the NSW Government.

KCNSW leaders noted that this initiative aligns with broader goals of long-term partnership rather than one-off consultations.

The engagement marks a milestone for the Kenyan community in NSW as it continues to build strategic relationships with government stakeholders. The Minister is expected to attend the Kenyan Dinner & Awards on 28 March, further reinforcing the commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration.

As KCNSW continues its advocacy and community development work, the outcomes of this meeting signal growing recognition of the Kenyan community’s role and contributions within New South Wales.
