Amplify Black Women Launch 2026 with Powerful Wellness Gathering ‘Uzima’

by  Africa Media Australia

Amplify Black Women opened the new year with a vibrant celebration of health, culture and community, hosting its first event of 2026 on Saturday 10 January in collaboration with African Health.

The event, titled Uzima — a Swahili word meaning “life” — brought together women from diverse backgrounds for an afternoon dedicated to holistic wellbeing. Designed as an intentional space for restoration and empowerment, Uzima centred the physical, mental and emotional health of Black women through movement, reflection and connection.

Organisers said the initiative was created to encourage women to begin the year by prioritising themselves and their wellbeing in a supportive and culturally affirming environment.

The program featured three carefully curated sessions led by respected facilitators in fitness, dance and wellness.

Participants began with an Afro Fusion dance class led by Lady Chika, which filled the room with rhythm, laughter and cultural expression. The energetic session encouraged women to reconnect with their bodies while celebrating African-inspired movement and joy.

This was followed by a Strength and Conditioning session with Coach Viola Jokudu, focused on building physical strength, confidence and resilience. The session highlighted fitness as a pathway to empowerment and long-term health.

The day concluded with a self-care workshop facilitated by Chisenga Makomo, where participants were invited into a reflective space focused on rest, mindfulness and sustainable wellbeing practices. The workshop provided practical tools for managing stress and nurturing balance in everyday life.

Throughout the event, the atmosphere was marked by openness, connection and encouragement. Organisers said the strong engagement reinforced the importance of creating intentional wellness spaces that speak directly to the experiences and needs of Black women.

Amplify Black Women expressed sincere gratitude to Decathlon Australia for sponsoring and supporting the event, noting that the company’s contribution played a key role in making Uzima possible. Appreciation was also extended to African Health, the facilitators, volunteers and all participants who attended with enthusiasm and intention.

With the success of Uzima, Amplify Black Women says it is excited to continue delivering community-centred wellbeing initiatives throughout 2026.

As the organisation looks ahead, it remains committed to amplifying voices, strengthening communities and creating spaces where Black women can thrive — physically, mentally and emotionally.
