The African Communities Council of South Australia (ACCSA) hosted a vibrant and inspiring Africa Day celebration, bringing together over 600 attendees to honour the diversity, resilience, and accomplishments of the African Australian community in South Australia.
Held in the spirit of unity and cultural pride, the event featured a rich display of African heritage through traditional performances, music, and cuisine. More than a celebration, the evening also served as a powerful reflection on three decades of settlement, integration, and contribution by African Australians in the state.

Celebrating 30 Years of Progress
The event highlighted the transformative journey of the African community in South Australia over the past 30 years. Key achievements were recognised, including ACCSA’s inclusive governance structure, its youth empowerment initiatives, and the community’s broad social and economic impact across the state.
The program underscored ACCSA’s commitment to fostering leadership, cultural identity, and active civic participation. The organisation was praised as a model of multiculturalism in practice, with its ability to unite diverse African nationalities under a shared vision of progress and inclusion.

Recognising Leadership and Legacy
Awards were presented to honour outstanding individuals and achievements within the community. Categories included Youth Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and special recognitions of past ACCSA chairpersons whose leadership has shaped the council’s growth and legacy. Those honoured included: Dr William Kagwa, Ben Yengi, Dr James Lodiong, Dr Joseph Masika, Mabok Deng Marial.
These leaders were acknowledged for their vision, dedication, and lasting contributions to community development. The evening commenced with a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country delivered by two young girls, representing a new generation of African Australians who understand the importance of honouring the First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to land and culture.
