What began as a simple idea driven by purpose and passion has now grown into a thriving movement empowering Black women through connection, visibility and support.
In May 2024 , Annette Cole launched Amplify Black Women with a clear mission: to create spaces where Black women are genuinely seen, heard and supported. At the time, the vision existed mostly as an idea, fuelled by determination and a desire to foster stronger community ties among Black women across professional, entrepreneurial and social spaces.

Annette Cole, Founder of Amplify Black Women
Fast forward two years, Annette has achieved a lot. Reflecting on the early days of the initiative, she recalls taking a leap of faith by reaching out through LinkedIn to respected community figures in Sydney, NSW, including Hawanatu Bangura, Juliana Nkrumah and Sifa Mtango. Despite the project still being in its infancy, they believed in the vision and agreed to support it.
For Annette, that moment remains deeply significant because it symbolised the foundation upon which Amplify Black Women was built: community, belief and women supporting one another.

Over the past two years, the platform has evolved into much more than an organisation. It has become a growing community shaped by meaningful conversations, authentic relationships and a collective commitment to uplifting Black women and ensuring their voices are recognised.
Annette also acknowledged that the journey has not been a solo effort. She paid tribute to the dedicated team members and supporters who continue to invest their time, energy and care into the mission, helping to transform the vision into a sustainable and impactful movement.

As Amplify Black Women marks this important milestone, the message from its founder is clear: the journey is only beginning. With growing momentum, stronger networks and a committed community behind it, the movement is positioning itself to continue creating opportunities, representation and empowerment for Black women in Australia and beyond.
