UBUNTU Mamas Foster Community and Connection at Dandenong Centre

by  Africa Media Australia

A group of women, known as the UBUNTU Mamas, are the driving force behind a community centre in Dandenong, Victoria, creating a hub focused on connection and mutual support.

Their daily contributions centre on preparing meals and maintaining a welcoming environment, establishing the location as a gathering point. The space facilitates regular conversation and storytelling, allowing women to build relationships and a shared sense of community.

Alongside these informal gatherings, the centre provides structured English language classes tailored for the participants. These sessions focus on practical skills in speaking, writing, and listening. Beyond language acquisition, the program is designed to promote cultural understanding, strengthen community networks, and potentially enhance future employability.

The centre’s operations are made possible through support from the Department of Health, the City of Greater Dandenong, the Andrews Foundation, and the Australia Communities Foundation.
